Learn the basics of sketch comedy writing! Learning how to write a focused sketch is a skill that any comedian or writer should have in their toolkit.
In this weekend intensive, students will work in a group setting to discuss ideas and outlines for sketches. Then we'll will turn outlines into first drafts, and first drafts into final drafts using feedback from the class and instructor. There will also be a discussion about what to do with your sketches after class, ways to create a sketch group, tools how to produce a show, submissions and how to build a writing practice.
Worried about not having time to write? This class has writing time built in so you’ll be able to practice this skill in your already busy lives.
This class if for those who are new to sketch writing and those that have written sketches before.
If you don't think you have any funny ideas, this class will show you that do and will help you find them. And do things with them.
Heather’s Bio:
Heather Meyer is a humor writer, performer and playwright. She is a writer on the international animated series, Uma and Devan: Namaste. She is an alum of the Brave New Workshop main stage and is the creator of the annual sketch comedy game show, Women's History Month: The Historical Comedybration (with fabulous prizes). Her satirical comedy essays have been published on Reductress.com, The Belladonna Comedy and The Cooper Review. She made the short film Zombie Sweater out of spite. She has an MFA in Playwriting and is an alum of the Second City Satire Writing Program.
